Welcome to the NCERT Solutions for Class 11th Chemistry - Chapter Structure of Atom. This page offers a step-by-step solution to the specific question from Exercise 1, Question 39: in milikan rsquo s experiment static electric cha....
Question 39

In Milikan’s experiment, static electric charge on the oil drops has been obtained by shining X-rays.

If the static electric charge on the oil drop is –1.282 × 10–18C, calculate the number of electrons present on it.

Answer

Charge carried by the oil drop = 1.282 ×10–18C

Charge carried by one electron = 1.6022 × 10–19C

∴electrons present on the oil drop carrying 1.282x10-18C charge
