Welcome to the NCERT Solutions for Class 12th Chemistry - Chapter Solutions. This page offers a step-by-step solution to the specific question from Exercise 2, Question 29: nalorphene c19h21no3 similar to morphine is us....
Question 29

Nalorphene (C19H21NO3), similar to morphine, is used to combat withdrawal symptoms in narcotic users. Dose of nalorphene generally given is 1.5 mg. Calculate the mass of 1.5 x 10-3m aqueous solution required for the above dose.

Answer

Molecular mass of nalorphene (C19H21NO3),

= 19 x 12 + 21 x 1 + 1 x 14 + 3 x 16 =  311 g/mol

Moles of nalorphene (C19H21NO3) = 1.5 x 10-3 x 311 = 4.67 x 10-6 mol

Now molality = (moles of solute  / mass of solvent in g) x 1000

Putting the values in above equation,we get

1.5 x 10-3 = (4.67 x 10-6 / mass of water) x 1000

Or

Mass of water = (4.67 x 10-6 x 1000) / 1.5 x 10-3

Therefore mass of water = 3.1g
