Welcome to the NCERT Solutions for Class 11th Chemistry - Chapter Equilibrium. This page offers a step-by-step solution to the specific question from Exercise 1, Question 42: the ph of a sample of vinegar is 3 76 calculate t....
Question 42

The pH of a sample of vinegar is 3.76. Calculate the concentration of hydrogen ion in it.

Answer

Given that:

pH = 3.76

It is known that,

pH = -log [H+]

⇒  log [H+]  = -pH

⇒ [H+] = antilog (-pH)

          = antilog(-3.76)

          = 1.74x10-4 M

Hence, the concentration of hydrogen ion in the given sample of vinegar is 1.74 × 10-4 M.
