Q1	Why did the neighbours kill the dog?
Ans:	The greedy neighbours heard about the good luck brought to couple by the dog. They got jealous. They coared the dog into their garden, in the hope that he would fired a buried treasure for them. The dog scratched the ground under a pine tree. Immediately they started digging the ground. There, they found nothing but a dead kitten. So, they became furious at the dog. They beat him to death and flung him into the hole.

Ans:	The old man was a kind person. He and his wife loved their child. They fed him fish from their own chopsticks and kind to everything that had life and often turned up a seed on purposes to give food to the birds.

Q2	What did the dog do to lead the farmer to the hidden gold?
Ans:	One day the dog came running to the farmer, rubbed his paws and pointed his head towards a spot behind him. The old man initially ignored the dog but it kept whining and running to and fro. So, the old man followed it and found a pile of gold before him.

Q3	(i) How did the spirit of the dog help the farmer first? (ii) How did it help him next?
Ans:	(i) When the dog died, it came to the farmer's dream and asked him to make a mortar and a million out of the wood of the pine tree. These converted the beans and dough into gold coins. (ii) In the next time the spirit of the dog came again in the farmers dream and told how the wicked couple had broke and burned the mill. He suggested to collect the ashes of the burning mill and sprinkle on the withered trees and they will bloom again.

Q4	Why did the daimio reward the farmer but punish his neighbour for the same act?
Ans:	When the daimio came, the farmer poured some ash on the cherry tree. As a result, it burst into blossom. Daimio was happy to see it and rewarded the farmer. But when the wicked neighbour did the same action, nothing happened to the tree and the ash entered into the eyes and nose of the daimio. So he got angry and punished the neighbour.
