The Indian national biology Olympiad is an examination organized for the 11th and 12th. It is conducted by the Homi Bhabha center for science education every year throughout India. Before participating in the national Olympiad, students must qualify for the local and regional levels of the Olympiads. Many students participate in the examination as it is one of the most prestigious Olympiads.

Eligibility for INBO Olympiad

This examination is conducted for the students of classes 11th and 12th. Participants must qualify for the level I examination before applying for the national level, and the candidate must meet all the requirements for the passport. If the student is selected for the international level Olympiad, it would be easier to proceed with passport requirements. The participant must be a citizen of India and a student of an Indian School. Students from outside India are not eligible to participate in the examination.

How to Register for INBO Olympiad

Students can enrol in the examination by filling out the registration form. The participant must fill in all the essential information required in the form. The registration forms are available on the official website of HBCSE- hbcse.tifr.res.in. The students can select the Olympiad option and all the events. After registration, participants are provided with the application no. and roll no,  information about admit card and exam center.

Exam Date for INBO Olympiad

February 2, 2025. Result will be declared in first week of march.

After completing the examination, students wait for their results desperately. The officials take 4-6 weeks to announce the result. The HBCSE is responsible for the declaration of the result and upload it on its official website. You can check out your result by following the steps below: 

  • First, go to the official website of HBCSE. 

  • Then choose INBO Olympiad from the list and select INBO.

  • You need to enter your email and password. It is essential for logging in.

  • Next, click on the INBO result from the menu. 

  • Next, enter your roll number and your date of birth.

  • Finally, check and download your INBO exam result

Exam Pattern for INBO Olympiad

INBO examinations are conducted all over India every year. The biology Olympiad is conducted in stages. INBO ( Indian National Biology Olympiad) is the 2nd Stage of the biology Olympiad. The syllabus of the third Stage is similar to the syllabus of other international Olympiad examinations. There are 5 stages in the biology Olympiad:

  1. Stage 1- National standard examination in biology ( NSEB )– This exam is for higher secondary students and is usually held in November. The Indian association of physics teachers and HBSCSE are responsible for organizing this exam. It is a one-hour examination in which more than 30,000 students participate every year,

  2. Stage 2- Indian national biology Olympiad ( INBO)- The time duration for this exam is two hours. This exam evaluates if a student deserves to proceed to the next round.

  3. Stage 3- Orientation cum selection camp in biology ( OCSC)-This Stage helps the students develop their skills in the theoretical, experimental, and observational for astronomy. The HBCSE and ISO are responsible for conducting this examination .this exam is held annually in April, and the students are trained in astrophysics and astronomical data analysis.

  4. Stage 4- Pre-departure training camp ( PDT)- It is a final step in which they provide intense training of 8-10 days to the top rank holders in the OCES exam.

  5. Stage 5- Participation in the international biology Olympiad ( IBO)- In this exam, only the pre-university students are eligible to participate. It is held annually across 5 continents with the participation of 75 students.
