Guidelines for Persons with Disabilities (PwD)

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued guidelines regarding the provision of scribe assistance and compensatory time for candidates with disabilities participating in the JEE (Main) Examination. Here are the key points:

1. Definition of Disabilities:

  • Benchmark Disability: A person with at least 40% disability, certified by a relevant authority.

  • Person with Disability: Includes those with long-term physical, mental, intellectual, or sensory impairments that hinder full participation in society.

2. Scribe/Reader Assistance:

  • Candidates with benchmark disabilities (e.g., blindness, locomotor disabilities) can request a scribe/reader/lab assistant if they have limitations in writing.

  • Other candidates with disabilities can also request a scribe if they provide a medical certificate confirming their need.

3. Certification Process:

  • A medical certificate must be obtained from a government healthcare institution, detailing the candidate's writing limitations.

  • A multi-member medical authority will assess and certify the need for a scribe.

4. Compensatory Time:

  • Candidates using a scribe will receive a minimum of 20 minutes of compensatory time for every hour of the examination.

  • For a 3-hour exam, candidates will receive at least 1 hour of additional time, regardless of whether they use a scribe.

  • If the exam duration is less than an hour, additional time will be calculated on a pro-rata basis.

5. Additional Provisions:

  • Candidates can choose their own scribe or request one from the examination body. They should meet the scribe two days before the exam to ensure suitability.

  • Guidelines also include provisions for assistive devices, proper seating arrangements, and accessibility at examination centers.

6. Updates and Clarifications:

  • Candidates are encouraged to regularly check the official NTA websites for the latest updates regarding the JEE (Main) Examination.

For further assistance, candidates can contact the NTA helpline or visit the official websites provided in the notice
