Class 12th Chemistry 2017 Set3 Outside Delhi Board Paper Solution

Question 14

(a) Based on the nature of intermolecular forces,classify the following solids

Sodium Sulphate , Hydrogen

(b) What happens when CdCl2 is doped with AgCl?

(c) Why do ferrimagnetic substances show better magnetism than antiferromagnetic substances?

Answer

(a) Sodium sulphate = Ionic solid where in sodium loses electrons & sulphate gains electrons .

Hydrogen= Molecular solid.

(b) When Agcl is doped with CdCl2 a cation-vacancy defect is created, i e An Ag+ ion from the lattice is absent from its position due to presence of adjacent cd++ ion.

(c) Because in anti ferromagnetism the alignment of magnetic moments of domains is in a compensatory way so as to give net magnetic moment because of cancellation of the individual magnetic moment. In ferromagnetic substances the alignment of domain are in parallel and antiparallel directions in unequal numbers results in net magnetic moment.
