The Kitchen – Chef
Responsible for the preparation and presentation of food. It includes the main course, snack preparation, starters, soups, bakery products, desserts etc.
Bartender
The serving of beverages, in a fashionable presentable and delectable manner is the job of a bartender. These include alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks.
Front Office
Important activities here are – receiving guests, making room reservations, the handling of correspondence, preparing bills, and accounts maintenance. The head of the department is the Front Office Manager or Executive House-keeper. Others include the Assistant Manager, Lobby Executive, Front Office Supervisor, Information Assistant, Receptionist, Bell Captain, Bell Boy, Doorman etc.
House Keeping
The work involves the keeping of the hotel, of the rooms, the bar, the restaurant, etc. It takes care to clean and make presentable the areas to guests, and ensure facilities and comfort. The various positions of this department are Chief executive house keeper, floor supervisor, room attendants, linen supervisors, maids etc.
Event Manager
Organizes all events taking place within the hotel premises and related to it. This includes banquets, parties, conferences etc. And special functions. The work is significant as the repute of the hotel is also dependent on how the event is organized and managed.
General Operations
The General Manager is the in-charge. He is the coordinator and the administrator, and responsible for staff management, for financial control, the provision of services, control of quality, and customer care.
Sales and Marketing
This department gets in touch and maintains relations with travel agents and tour operators, and corporate clients, to sell hotel facilities. Advertising and Public Relations is also managed by this department.
Catering
This includes the serving of food – it may be at the restaurant, in lounges, or rooms.
Accounting Department
All financial transactions are taken care of by this department. It deals with purchase of materials, offering of services to guests, compiling information for budgeting, pricing of food and services, etc.
Engineering / Maintenance Department
Only engineers are employed for the maintenance department. The work deals with the building and maintenance of various machines in the hotel premises.
Security department
It provides security to guests and their belongings.
