Rekha Gupta: Delhi’s new Chief Minister | Know her journey and priorities

Rekha Gupta’s political journey began in 1992 with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at Delhi University’s Daulat Ram College. In 1996-97, she assumed the presidency of the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) and remained active on student issues. In 2007, she was elected councillor from North Pitampura, where she contributed significantly to the improvement of local amenities such as libraries, parks, and swimming pools. She also launched the “Sumedha Yojana” to assist economically weaker female students in higher education. As the chairperson of the Women Welfare and Child Development Committee, she took several initiatives for the empowerment of women.

Role in BJP

In the BJP Mahila Morcha, Rekha Gupta has served as the General Secretary in Delhi and a member of the National Executive Committee, where she played a key role in organisational work.

Delhi Assembly Elections 2025

In the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, the BJP won 48 out of 70 seats, while the AAP was reduced to only 22 seats. In this election, prominent leaders of the AAP, such as former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, and other prominent figures lost their seats. Kejriwal, who represented the New Delhi seat for 10 years, lost to BJP’s Parvesh Verma by 4,089 votes.
