Muscling past exam jitters

The world has become a rat race and the levels of competition have increased to unimaginable extent. This has resulted in many students feeling examination jitters and exam stress, which not just affect their learning abilities, but in turn also affects their overall performance in an examination. Here are some of the ways in which you can muscle past exam jitters and score well.

Start preparing early

‘Well begun is half done,’ is a phrase that commonly describes how early preparation can give you better results. So, from the next time start your preparations early. Organize your notes, take care of the assignments and keep your study material at place. Then make sure that you read and revise every assignment that you did in class. This way, you will have a lesser burden of work each day and will be prepared well before the examination.

Allocate time

Allot time to your chapters. For instance, Chapter 1 of science shall be done in 1 hour and so on. If you are unable to complete it in allocated time, then move on to next. Preferably, revise topics in ascending order of their likability. For instance, if you don’t like a topic, revise it first and then close the exam you will only have likable topics to revise. Prefer on quality rather than quantity, which means that the duration of study shouldn’t be considered, rather the quality of what you understood shall be considered.

Take breaks

Preferably, a ten minute break after every one and half hours would refresh your mind and increase your attention span. This way you can divide your work in accordance to one and half hours. Give at least half an hour for walking in the garden. Otherwise, watch television for a while, but only for a while and not long.

Don’t take about exams at the dinner table

Families shouldn’t take exams while eating. Mothers can cook something special for children a day before the exam. But make sure that children don’t stuff up snacks while working and that dinner table isn’t the area for discussing examinations.

Try meditation

Meditation and deep breathing is the best way to relax. If you want to muscle past exam jitters in the most positive way, then try meditation. It will not only take off negative thoughts from your mind, but it will also help you to develop a greater attention span. This way you will be able to learn better.

Get some sleep and make list

Sleep is the best way to ensure that information is retained. So, don’t sacrifice sleep or you will end up feeling sluggish or lazy, thereby increasing anxiety levels. Also, make a list of your items required for the duration examination. Keep extra pens and water bottles to rehydrate yourself.

Don’t revise one hour before exam

Most of the time children revise everything an hour before exam, but this will only increase jitters and anxiety levels. So, make sure that you don’t revise an hour before the exam and rather revise 3 hours before.
