The Directorate of Minorities under the Government of Karnataka or GOKDOM aims at providing resolutions to the minorities of Karnataka i.e. Christians, Sikhs, Parses, Muslims, Buddhists and Jains.

It was an initiative taken for the welfare of the backward classes or minorities back in the years 1999-2000. The goal of the initiative was to benefit the minorities by elevating their socio-economic standards.

Situated in Bangalore, GOKDOM plays the role of the active agency for all the scholarship programmes being organised by the government for the betterment of the minorities.

The directorate takes care of the planning, synchronisation, assessment and the implementation of the development programmes for the welfare of the students that belong to the minorities.

GOKDOM Scholarship Eligibility- Who can Apply?

Since it’s the Government of Karnataka that offers the GOKDOM scholarship scheme, there is a major eligibility criteria that candidates have to pass in order to apply for the scholarship.

The most important of all being that only the students who belong to the minorities and possess the domicile of Karnataka are eligible for this scholarship programme. Furthermore, interested candidates are requested to have a look at the important points regarding the eligibility criteria for the scholarship as given below.

1) GOKDOM pre-matric scholarship

  • Only the students from class 1 to 10 can apply.
  • Apart from the students of class 1, all the other candidates should have scored more than 50% on their previous examination.
  • The total family income of the candidate shouldn’t exceed 1 lakh.
  • Students that currently study in the state of Karnataka but do not belong here are not eligible for the scholarship.
  • Students that possess the domicile of Karnataka but are currently studying in some other state can apply for the scholarship.

2) GOKDOM post-matric scholarship

  • Applicants of this scholarship can be a student of class 11th to PhD.
  • The percentage marks scored by the applicant on the last examination taken must be more than 50% or above.
  • The family income of the candidate must not be more than 2 lakhs.
  • Candidates that are studying through correspondence or certificate/training courses are not eligible.
  • Students that currently study in the state of Karnataka but do not belong here are not eligible for the scholarship.

3) GOKDOM Merit-cum-means scholarship

  • Candidates must be pursuing graduation or post-graduation in a technical/professional field.
  • The percentage marks scored by the applicant on the last examination taken must be more than 50% or above.
  • The family income of the candidate must not be more than 2.5 lakhs.

4) GOKDOM National overseas scholarship

  • Candidate must be less than 38 years of age at the beginning of the course.
  • The percentage marks scored by the applicant on the last examination taken must be more than 60% or above.
  • This scholarship scheme is only applicable to selected courses.

5) GOKDOM incentive for SSLC & 2nd PUC

  • Candidates are required to have passed class 10th or 12th with 85% or more.

6) GOKDOM M.Phil. and PhD fellowship

  • Candidates should be less than 35 years of age.
  • Annual family income of the candidate must not exceed 6 lakhs.
  • Full time or government employees are not eligible for this scholarship.

Documents Required For Application

The candidates are required to bring along the following documents in order to apply offline / be ready with the same in case applying online.

  • A passport size photograph of the candidate.
  • Domicile of Karnataka.
  • Mark sheet of the last qualifying examination taken.
  • Candidate’s caste certificate.
  • Original Aadhar card of the candidate along with a copy of the same and lastly,
  • Income certificate.

Application Process for The GOKDOM Scholarship

Since there are a variety of scholarship schemes being offered by GOKDOM, the application process for each one is different from the other. Candidates will be required to fill out the forms for some Scholarships online whereas some offline.

The National Scholarship Portal or NSP also sponsors some of these scholarships. The application process for those is conducted online.

Stepwise Online Application Through gokdom.kar.nic.in

  1. Interested candidates can visit the website portal @ gokdom.kar.nic.in.
  2. New users can click on the “Students registration form” option.
  3. Next, you will be required to enter your personal information i.e. your name, address, parents details along with contact information etc.
  4. After providing all the information asked for, you can submit the application.
  5. After submitting the application you will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number.
  6. Once again you will be required to login to the portal and fill the details.
  7. Now you can upload your documents onto the web portal.
  8. Click on the continue button and save your information.
  9. Take a print out of the same.

GOKDOM Scholarship Renewal

  • In order to renew the GOKDOM scholarship, candidates must visit the website @ gokdom.kar.nic.in.
  • Further you have to click on “apply for renewal”.
  • Next, you have to login to the official website and enter your ID and password.
  • Edit the information and click on renewal details.
  • Submit.

An incentive of Rs. 10,000 is provided to the SSLC students and Rs. 20,000 to the students of 2nd PUC.

GOKDOM M.Phil. and PhD Fellowships

Candidates are offered a fellowship up to or worth Rs. 25,000 per month along with a contingency grant of Rs. 10,000 p.a.
