Law is a set of rules that govern a nation and its people. It is the backbone of a legal system that the government of the country imposes upon the subjects with an aim to safeguard life and property, avoid malpractices, correct the misdeeds committed, and maintain social and political stability. Law delivers justice to the wronged, and punishes the guilty. A Lawyer is a trained professional who is well versed in law. He is a person who has a license specifically to practice law as a counsel, attorney or solicitor.

A Corporate Lawyer is one who deals with the legalities and laws specific to companies and corporates. He is attached to a company right from its inception to dissolution, taking care of all the legal requirements and complexities. Corporate lawyers are thus involved in the day to day functioning of the client company, guiding them and preventing them from actions that are not within the precincts of the legal framework. They are consulted on business decisions. 

Corporate Law was born in 1950 in India with the issue of the issue of the Joint Stock Companies Act. The basis of corporate law is the Companies Act 1956. But it is not restricted to this, and includes legislation and rulings issued. It deals with corporate relationships, capital,corporate governance and restructuring, and also securities legislation. 

To be a corporate lawyer, you can opt for any branch of study ate plus two. But Humanities is a better choice. You can either enroll for a bachelor’s in law (LLB) or post graduate degree in law. BA.LL.B is a 5 year course. LL.B is a three year program. You can specialize in any discipline – corporate, civil, criminal, etc. Training programs are also helpful. 

As a Corporate Lawyer, you have to have a very good command over written and spoken English. You have to be diplomatic in handling cases, and also have good debating skills. You should also train yourself to be an efficient drafter, and study hard to know all the rules, regulations, legislation, statutes, notifications and intricacies of corporate law. Working for long hours to meet deadlines or during critical times should not be a problem for you. You have to imbibe that capacity and capability to work effectively under stress. Also, a corporate lawyer with a vision and ability to foresee is typically successful. You should be so learned and passionate about your profession that you can forecast any occurrence or problem in the near future. such a lawyer id sort after by client companies as they can help a company from loss, defamation, and dissolution. Thus a big and essential role to play. 

A corporate lawyer gets handsomely remunerated. You have financial stability if you are good in your work. You can command fame and reverence too. You work for a client, but are a consultant, advisor, and guide. The satisfaction derived out of resolving complicated corporate disputes and facing the challenges posed by rival groups, is non expressible. Every company today hires a corporate lawyer to take care of its issues and business. Thus the scope is only expanding. There is a need for quality lawyers who have in depth knowledge and the capability to face and overcome company grievances
