1. What is GRE?
GRE (Graduate Record Examination) is a type of standardized test applied for graduate schools in English speaking countries majorly, US. Students who look forward to studying many different subjects mostly opt for GRE.
2. What is GMAT?
GMAT (Graduate Management Aptitude Test) is a test to get into one of the US based business schools. Now, there are some colleges which also accept both GRE and GMAT score during their admission process.
3. What does GRE consist of?
GRE is conducted all year long and only graduate students can enroll for the exam which basically tests four main areas:
- Verbal Reasoning
- Quantitative Aptitude
- Critical Thinking
- Analytical Skills
The examination basically gives out three scores on Verbal section, Quantitative section and lastly both the critical and analytical writing skills. Basically it is a three hour computer based test but when the facility is not available you can go for the paper pen format.

The cost for the computer based GRE test format is $175 worldwide including US. But in the case of the paper- pen GRE test it is $130 in the US and UK and $150 in the rest of the world. You can book your slot for computer based GRE all year round but the paper based GRE Exam date is generally in the month of April, October and November.
5. Subjects that you can opt for in GRE
There are a total eight subjects in which you can take GRE. The full score is around 2400.

After you take the GRE the scores are available within six weeks from the day of the test.
6. Format similarities between GMAT and GRE
GMAT is popular among future business students. You have to be a graduate to give the particular examination. The format is quite the same as GRE. There are total four sections and each section has an individual score giving you four to five test scores.

7. Subtle differences
Apart from individual score the exam taker also receives a total score and percentile rank. The cost of GMAT is $250 worldwide. But unlike GRE it is only a computer based test and there is no paper pen option available. The test duration is slightly higher than GRE, it is around 3.5 hours. The full score for GMAT is 800 and there are no such different subjects in GMAT. To give GMAT you have to book your slot just like computer based GRE and it is also conducted all year round.
