The All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) is conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) every year, usually in the month of April, for admission primarily to the National Institute of Technology (branches all over the country), and the National Institute of Information Technology (NIIT), deemed universities, government funded institutions and technical colleges in the country. It is an exam that has the highest number of students applying for it.
Students who have either passed their twelfth board examination or those appearing for it, are eligible to apply for AIEEE. For B. Tech degree, the appearing students should compulsorily have physics and mathematics in plus two along with either chemistry, biotechnology, computer science or biology. Those appearing for the B. Arch. Or B. Planning, should have a 50% in mathematics.
The All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) consists of two papers. It is an objective type format with multiple choice questions. Students should specifically note that there is negative marking in the exam. For every wrong answer, you lose one third of the mark allotted for that question. If you do not answer a question then it is not marked. Again, if you mark more than one answer for a question it is considered a wrong answer and you get marked negatively. The first paper consists of physics, chemistry and maths, each given equal weight-age. The second is a maths and aptitude test for those opting for B. Tech., and drawing for B. Arch. and B. Planning students. The cut-off of AIEEE is around 60-70%. if you at least get a score near this, you are sure to get through a good NIT.
An analysis of the previous year’s papers hint to the important topics that need to be concentrated upon. In Physics you should pay attention to Electricity, Magnetism, Modern Physics, Mechanics, Radioactivity, Wave Options and Heat Transfer. Physical Chemistry and Organic Chemistry form a huge chunk of the Chemistry section. In Maths, Calculus, Algebra, 3D, Vectors, Coordinate Geometry form a significant part of the paper. Studying these topics will ensure that you are able to answer correctly most of the test. The question paper pattern is not constant. It is subject to change. It is thus essential to be prepared to tackle any changes. A loss of confidence on witnessing a new pattern will lead to losing out on the test.
Form a time table as soon as you decide to appear for the AIEEE. Note down the important topics and dedicate time to all of them. Do not leave out any segment. It is beneficial to devote a more time on chemistry than the rest as it is easy and scoring. Constant practice and revision is a must. While preparing, concentrate on the subjects you are strong at, but do not ignore the ones you are weak at. Working on your speed and solving previous year’s paper is a useful tip to crack the test. Have an in-depth knowledge of the syllabus.
When you are at the test centre, there are a few things that you should not forget. A careful analysis of the paper before answering will ensure a smooth attempt. Another important thing is time management. Scan the paper and allot time accordingly for each section. Do not leave any section unanswered as they have equal weight-age and may result in losing marks. Answer the easy questions first and then turn to the difficult ones. But do not attempt the ones you do not know. Use shortcuts wherever possible to save time. Experts suggest that a student should start by answering theoretical questions, then the ones that require calculation. It is advisable that mathematics section should not be attempted first. Revise the paper after finishing. This will help in undoing silly mistakes and answering any question that you may left undone. The last, but definitely not the least, way to crack the test, is to stay calm and composed. Be confident while taking the test. Do not panic if you have left questions unanswered. Many do that. Just make sure that the ones you have done are correct and you are able to get the passing marks.
The All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) is not a difficult test. The only thing that you require to crack it is efficient study pattern and smart answering. Hard work and dedication are two requirements that guarantees positive result in AIEEE.
