Offered in only three colleges in Delhi University, the popularity of the Bachelor of Business Studies(BBS) has soared over the last few years. The course is ideal for those inclined towards management studies. BBS graduates get recruited through campus placements held at all three colleges—Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies (CBS), Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, and Keshav Mahavidyalaya.
The curriculum of the BBS course—commonly referred to as a ‘mini MBA’—may be restructured soon to suit the market demand. There is a total of 315 seats this year for which a combined entrance test will be conducted on June 6. Admission to BBE and BFIA is also done through the same test.
Even as BBS was a hot option for commerce students, who did not have mathematics in class XII, till last year, DU has changed the criteria this year making mathematics in class XII a prerequisite to apply.
However, the course is open to students of all streams. The sale of forms for BBS is over this year. A candidate is required to have 60%(55% for ST, SC, CW, and PC categories) in four subjects, including English and mathematics. Admission will be based on the interview and GD, entrance test as well as class XII performance.
BBS graduates at CBS were offered an average annual salary package of Rs 5 lakh—the highest was Rs 10 lakh this year. The teacher says BBS is sufficient to land up a plum job offer. Students get recruited by banks, consultancy firms, KPOs, and companies from various other sectors.
